Come On In! Come Back Often!

GO AND TELL! Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1 Cor 12:4-7

IN THE CHURCH YEAR: ORDINARY TIME is the rest of the church year following Epiphany and Pentecost. This term comes from the word "ordinal," which simply means counted time and always begins with Trinity Sunday and ends with Christ the King Sunday (last Sunday before the beginning of Advent). The 24 to 28 Sundays of Ordinary Time are used to focus on the mission of the church in the world.

The sancuary color for Ordinary Time is dark green (although other shades of green are commonly used), traditionally associated with new life and growth.

REFORMATION/FESTIVAL OF REFORMATION: Reformation Day, October 31 each year, recalls the work of God in preserving and reforming the church in times of trial. Martin Luther is often referred to on this day as one of the defenders of the truth and a promoter of the gift of God's grace to all. Listen for the majestic hymn "A Mighty Fortress," written by Martin Luther. Toward the end of Ordinary Time on the church calendar, Reformation Day is an observance of all synods of the Lutheran Church, and red is the sanctuary color for Festival of the Reformation.

CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY: Christ the King Sunday is the last Sunday of the church year, the closest Sunday to November 30, and focuses on the Second Coming of Christ, ushering in the season of Advent. The phrases "King of kings" and "Lord of lords" echo in the selected music. The sanctuary color for this celebration is white, symbolizing purity, light and joy that Christ is our King.

BATTERMANN, DUCHOW, HARNIET, AND HYLTON FAMILIES: We have been up and running for several months . . . this is our very own web site! It took months for me to the ins and outs and I still am a novice, so feel free to critique and pass on suggestions. Word of mouth was passed along at the 2007 reunion that this amazing tool for witnessing and for sharing family news is available to us through Lutherans Online. . . Free! Thank you Thrivent!!

Some anniversaries and birthdays are trickling in and the excitement is becoming contagious. Thank you for the responses! Please email events that you would like to see in the Calendar Page Link, Family News Page or elsewhere...the sooner the better! "Contact Us" information is below. Birth/wedding years can be included and, by permission only, home addresses and/or email addresses for those who would like the convenience--(Psst! you might get a greeting card from a family member you haven't heard from in ages!)

Battermann Families:

Having our own Web site is exciting because we can keep up with all the family news. We can post announcements, stories, events, weekly/monthly/seasonal features, and anything else we wish to share with each other. We're not 100%, yet, but we're just a snail's pace or two or three away. This is also a great witnessing tool for visitors looking around in the public areas of our site!

When special blessings happen in your life, we should not only share with each other, but also tell the world. That's what this site is all about. And if you have a lot to say, we can use an expanded posting, then let the reader click on "Continue" to read the rest...Yes, go ahead, click on Continue now...
