About Our Pastor |
Rev. Dr. Joy Harrell Blaylock Pastor |
I am a wife, mother, and Pastor in the ELCA. I am privileged to be called to serve at St. Paul's in Mobile, my home congregation which fostered my call to be a pastor. I attended Lutheran Southern Seminary in 2010 to complete my path to ordination and was called to St. Paul's that same year.
Prior to my call to ordained service, I served as a adjunct professor of theology at Spring Hill College. My other degrees and studies include: a B.A. in Psychology at University of South Alabama in 1994, M.A. in Theology at Spring Hill College (Jesuit) in 1996, and Ph.D. in Systematic Theology at the Catholic University of America in 2004.
I am passionately ecumenical as I come from a Methodist, Presbyterian, and Catholic background. Yet, I found my 'home' in the Lutheran Church in 2001. My understanding of the heart of the Lutheran confessional witness is the wide embracing offer of God’s grace through faith alone. By emphasizing the meritorious work of Christ in our salvation, we are freed from the notion that we must earn or attain our salvation.
