Thank you, Lord, for coming to me in my loneliness and vulnerability. When I am alone and in the midst of trials and temptations, you are with me - and therein my strength. Almighty God, with your presence and power, I will step out and boldly witness to your grace. Amen.

Council Reflections
Elaine H.
I grew up going to a small Presbyterian country church in Illinois. All those years attending church services, Sunday school, youth group, ice cream socials and many other things left me with the incredible feeling that I belonged there and that I shared in the belief of God. After leaving home, I really didnt go to church regularly because I just didnt have the time or I guess I just took some years off getting up early on Sunday morning (or the rebellion years in college). Anyway, after college and settling into my first real job, I started looking for a church to go to and I also was starting to substitute for organists around Waterloo. I applied for an organist position here at St Ansgar and the rest is history. The sense of belonging somewhere came back to me. I had not realized how much I had missed that and how essential that was for my life. In todays world, I truly believe that people are missing that very important sense of belonging. Being a part of a church and its congregation and sharing in a common belief that we are all in Gods family is vital today. Without that, I believe people can find themselves empty and alone, not knowing where to turn.
As a Christian and a member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, I believe it is my job to let others know that we are a family here and they are invited to be a part of this family. No one is turned away. We are here for you in your greatest struggles and in your greatest celebrations. Anyway, that is how I was treated when I first came here and it has only grown stronger. Like one of the songs in my book of alternative worship music, People Need the Lord. Whether they know it or not, they do.
