Pastor Jim Gardner has served as pastor of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church since Jan. 1994.His previous congregation, Shepherd of the Hills, is located in Schapville, IL. He served there from Jan. 1980 until Jan 1994. While at St. Ansgar he has been the Chaplain for the Conference, Conference Correspondent and is currently on the Synod Candidacy Committee. He is a Vietnam veteran, published author, song writer and the leader of the most popular jug band in the Cedar Valley, the "Atomic Fireballs". | Pastor Steven Ullestad has served as Bishop of the Northeastern Iowa Synod since 1992. His ministry priorities include supporting rostered persons in their ministries, focusing congregations on mission, spiritual renewal, strengthening youth ministry, increasing awareness of biblical principles of stewardship and building ministry partnerships. He currently serves on the board of Lutheran Services in Iowa, Wartburg College,Allen Hospital and Allen College. He is chairperson of Barnabas Uplift and Face It Together substance abuse prevention coalition, advisory bishop to Augsburg Fortress Board, and member of the ELCA Task Force on Genetics. | In August 2001, the Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Churchin America (ELCA) elected Mark S. Hanson to serve as presiding bishop.The presiding bishop of the ELCA is elected to a six-year term by the Churchwide Assembly. In addition to fulfilling such roles as preacher, teacher and administrator of the sacraments, which traditionally belong to the office of bishop, the presiding bishop of the ELCA serves as president and chief executive officer of the corporation and oversees the staff, budget, and over all administration of the church.
