HAITI UPDATE
A severe earthquake has hit Haiti where half of the capital city of Port-Au-Prince is now destroyed or unsafe to inhabit. Our Lutheran church through Lutheran Disaster Response is already at work there. Thanks to all who have generously contributed to disaster relief in Haiti. Special offerings, coupled with proceeds from the Eaglefest Bake Sale, are amounting to over $800 toward relief efforts. Continue to pray for those in Haiti -- grieving families, the injured, and the workers. Click the link to find out more from ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson.
100% of all donations designated for Haiti will go for relief work there. Make your check payable to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church - Haiti, or click the button to donate securely through the ELCA. On January 22, 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law the Haiti Assistance Income Tax Incentive Act to assist people affected by the earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010. Cash contributions (including those made by check or credit card) made on or after January 12, 2010, through February 28, 2010, may be treated for federal tax purposes as if such contributions were made on December 31, 2009. Thank you!
Health kits provide basic necessities to people who have been forced to leave their homes because of human conflict or natural disaster. Health kits are also used as learning tools in personal hygiene, literacy, nutrition and cooking classes.
Place these items inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag.
* 1 hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27", No kitchen towels) * 1 washcloth * 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized) * 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers) * 1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up) * 1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes) * 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages * $1.00 to purchase toothpaste
Important Kit Assembly Information
* All items included in kits must be NEW items. * All emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items-nothing more. * Do NOT include any personal notes, money or additional materials in the kits. These things must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment.
Bring your assembled kits, together with $1 each for toothpaste and $1.50 each for shipping costs to St. Paul's. We are working cooperatively with Beach Lake United Methodist Church which will do the work of shipping cartons of these kits for use in Haiti.
