What is DELK? |
DELK is Norway's oldest free lutheran church. The church was founded in 1872 in Vestfold and has 3.600 members. The main purpose for the founding fathers was to establish their own primary schools, as modern ideas and new reading books left less space for the christian teaching in the public school. Delk's roots are in the movement following Hans Nielsen Hauge's preaching in the early 1800's, and the church since the beginning emphasized the christian education and learning Luther's cathecism. DELK today has 14 local churches and 7 schools. More information about DELK is to be found at www.delk.no (Norwegian only).

Where do I find DELK? |
DELK was founded in Vestfold, at the western side of the Oslo fjord. This is still where most of DELK's members live. There are also churches in the southern part of Telemark and in Oslo, and at the west coast: south of Stavanger and in Bergen. As the lutheran Church of Norway, in which 86% of the population are members, becomes more liberal and sets the Bible's authority aside, many christians see DELK as an alternative. We believe in growth and we also believe that DELK is a part of God's purpose to keep a true faith in Christ alive in Norway today.

DELK's logo |

|
DELK's logo shows much of the church's basic idea: The small hand is being met by a larger hand from above. This symbolizes man's hand and God's hand. It also symbolizes a child's hand and the guiding hand from parents, teachers and the church. It is essential to teach children about Christ, and this is our mission in church, home and school. There is also another hand, and this makes two hands stretching out towards God. This all happens under the roof of a building, which symbolizes both the church, the home and the school.
