GREETINGS!On behalf of all the men, women and children of Shalom I offer you greetings!
Shalom has close to 800 baptized members and growing.
In 2009, Shalom Lutheran achieved some important milestones by adding on a beautiful new Sunday school and office addition and a successful pre-school with classes on M/W/F for 4 & 5year olds and T/Th for 3 & 4 year olds. Because of its success more classes are being added. Please call the church for more information – ask for Pam.
Some people may ask: “What is a Lutheran?” We are Christians who trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior. Lutheran teachings are founded on the church’s understanding of the Bible and the Confessions of the Church. Basically, Lutheranism teaches that a person is saved only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
How do we worship? The Bible is the basis for our worship. We are a liturgical church, which means we retain forms of the Mass, but renewed emphasis is placed on the preaching of God’s Word. We celebrate two sacraments. The first is Baptism, which is the death to sin found in us and a rebirth into a holy life in Jesus Christ. We become a child of God. The second sacrament is The Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion which we encounter God in Jesus Christ directly in the bread and wine and God’s Word. Christ comes among us to forgive our sins and to help us strengthen our faith.
Simply, being a Lutheran means being a vital member in the body of Christ. As Jesus said, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” – John 8:31-32.
We do have an un-staffed Nursery where your child can fuss or play and you are still able to view and listen to the service.
I hope you come and visit us. We love new faces!
Sincerely yours,
Rev. Jim “Chip” Joyslin
Senior Pastor
