The Carrie L. Twyman Kids Church of Immanuel Lutheran Church began in May of 2007 and the enthusiasm for the ministry keeps growing and growing! John Suguitan of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Mason has a real heart for inner city ministry and a great love for kids. He continues to lead the worship along with making up to three trips in his car each Saturday morning, gathering kids from Avondale and Over-the-Rhine neighborhoods. Arlene Brown and Beverly Clayton have faithfully and continuously gone above and beyond with the help of our Kids Church staff to provide a safe place, caring smiles and hugs, fun worship and lunch for 30 or more kids each week. Occasionally, the kids even enhance the worship at Immanuel with their singing! We hope to make the kids a regular part of the Sunday worship by having them sing at least once a month. Thanks to the support of the Lutheran Community and others, we have been able to put on Fall and Spring Festivals for the kids of the Avondale Community and Cincinnati at large.
One challenge we have is that our community is very transient and so even when kids move away from the Avondale Community they still want to attend Kids Church. Therefore, we are picking kids up in Over-the-Rhine, Winton Terrace, Clifton, and Price Hill. This ministry is a tremendous undertaking for such a small congregation but the Lord is truly blessing this ministry beyond measure as we minister to these precious little ones.
If you would like to help, we would definitely appreciate it! We are always in need of financial support, but you could also be on the schedule to provide lunch (perfect event for youth groups), or volunteer to drive, or simply give of your time by sitting with the kids in worship, you will find it extremely rewarding!
