Holy Spirit Lutheran Church Child Care Center was founded in 1966. The main goal of our pre-school program is to prepare children for kindergarten and develop in each child a joy of learning and a sense of wonder for the world around them. Our program is designed to incorporate factors that meet the growth and developmental needs of children.
We believe that the success of an educational program depends not only on the quality of the materials and the physical facility but on the philosophy, training, experience and dedication of the teachers. We pride ourselves in having devoted child-centered educators who have faith in every child’s ability and desire to learn.
Our school is licensed by the State of New Jersey, and our staff is approved by the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
Teachers provide a variety of learning opportunities as young children explore and expand knowledge of themselves and their environment. Our goal is to:
- help children develop a good self concept and to learn to respect and value their own rights and the rights of others.
- help each child live more fully each day.
- increase independence in meeting and solving problems.
- promote language skills and encourage self-expression through art and music.
- help each child to think critically, observe, investigate, seek and acquire information.
- promote health, physical growth and motor development.
These goals are realized through informal experience in social living, physical education, music and rhythms, art, mathematics, science and nature studies, language arts and social studies.
GENERAL DAILY PROGRAM
Our general daily program consists of the following activities: individual experience, supervised play and art activities; clean up sharing time; science and language arts; sensory motor activities, songs and games, story time, wash up; snack; outdoor or indoor play and preparation for going home. A music class is held once a week for each class and computer classes are available to those who are interested. In addition to the educational activities, our Extended Care Program includes afternoon rest and supervised play until time to go home.
COMMUNICATIONS
Parents are always welcome at school. Two formal conferences are held each year in November and May. We try to schedule conferences so that every parent can come.
ENROLLMENT
The enrollment is for the full 10 month school year and no credit is allowed for days when school is closed due to bad weather or for illness or family vacations. We are a non-profit organization and our programs are financed entirely by tuition. Because the Leonia Community Chest allocates contributions to our tuition aid fund, a limited amount of assistance is available to those in need.
Additional hours for students currently enrolled are available in the Extended Care class for a fee when space permits.
HEALTH RECORDS AND IMMUNICATIONS
A health exam is required. By State law, individual dates of all required shots must be submitted before a child enters school. Each child is required to have DPT, oral polio vaccine, measles and rubella vaccine, tine test, HIB, varicella, and Hepatatis B.
TUITION AND CLASS SCHEDULES
More information is available on the Child Care Center’s “Application Form” link.
Tuition aid for children in either program may be requested from the director or pastor.
