And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up
there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.

The May/June Nutshell

Jesus > Religion
I've seen this video before...religion is a man- made institution that is supposed to help us strengthen our faith. But as with most man-made institutions, it can be easily corrupted. The young man's theology is VERY Lutheran...God has chosen us...we cannot "choose" God. The church should be a place where broken souls can find healing...none of us are perfectly healthy Christians even if we think we're doing okay. For me, the Church is very different from religion. The Church is the entire community of faithful Christians; denominations are ways we express ourselves in that faith. The Church is also the continuation of Jesus' ministry on Earth and there is some need for organization. Even Jesus appointed Peter as leader and his Apostles as teachers to continue to spread the Good News. I think things started to go awry when Constantine made Christianity the state religion and Roman way of religion and organization were adopted. It has been nearly 500 hundred years...maybe it's time for another reformation!

Yours in Christ,

Pr. Maren

Confirmation class of 1906 was the first class confirmed in the new church building.
Note how small the oak trees are.
Stained Glass Window / Scales

The stained glass window, seen on the left, had been stored in the attic of the church since @ 1960 when it was removed to make way for the balcony. It was located above the inside entrance doors when the building was erected. The congregation plans to place the window where the clock is now and put lights around so it might once again add to the beauty of the sanctuary. As of June 2nd, $636.00 has been received. The goal was $500.00. The goal has been met. The frame for the window is completed and awaiting installation.

Question?

Why should I go to church?
I get nothing out of it.

Answer:
1. We go to church to worship God.
2. Others are supported by your presence.
3. You might get something out of it.

As Hurricane Irene battered the East Coast, federal
disaster officials warned that Internet outages could
force people to interact with other people for the
first time in years. Residents braced themselves for
the horror of awkward silences and unwanted eye contact.
FEMA had advised: “Be prepared. Write down possible
topics to talk about in advance. Sports...the weather.

Harry came home from Sunday school and asked his mother,
“Do people really come from dust?” “In a way said,” said
his mother. “And do they go back to dust?” “Yes, in a way.”
She replied. “Well, mother, I looked under my bed, and
somebody’s either coming or going.”
