Michael's Universe
It starts out
with a speck

a minute fleck
of matter so dense
the world
slides a micro-fraction
away from
normal.
The empty space
left behind
by dislodged
internal organs –
my bowels, my
heart -
gouged out by
the weight of it hurtling through space
leaving a
cosmic trail
a tingling
behind my eyes
as if I’ve
stared too long into the sun
and only now
realize its seriousness.
How awful it is
that relentless
slide
where nothing
prevails against gravity
or the
inexorable mass
of loneliness.
