School’s back in session and going strong! Summer seems to fly by. The youth had several things going on this past summer. Marla and some of the youth attended the National Youth Convention in New Orleans. Cassandra Mohrmann and Shae Moore were a part of a mission trip to Argentina. I’m excited to hear reports from both groups about their adventures.

A group of youth went to RFKC this summer to help out with the “hoedown”. RFKC is a camp for abused youth. Sandy Kroeker is in charge of the camp and many of our youth have served as counselors or staff. Our group was in charge of feeding about 50 campers and their counselors. We had a real campfire meal complete with watermelon! This is a summer activity that our youth have had a great time doing. I’m sure we’ll be involved with it again next year.

Also, this summer we launched our “Backpack to School” project. We had seventeen families that asked for assistance with their school supply list. We provided a backpack filled with the items they needed to start school. I’m really proud of the youth and this particular project. There was a need right here in Thayer County and our willingness to respond warms my heart. I hope the congregation is as proud of our youth as I am! They are a smart bunch and when they see a need they jump at the chance to help others!

Sunday school will be starting on September 13th. Our curriculum will consist of ‘talk sheets’. These cover topics that are in the news today and real to our youth. Subjects will vary and I’ll be asking the youth to lead the discussion from time to time. I’m always searching for material to use with our teens so if you have some suggestions please get in touch with me.

I want to again thank Marla and Bill for their part in the youth’s church service at the fair. Bill always helps with the sound, making sure everything gets hauled down to the grandstand and hooked up properly. Marla takes the time to set up practice time with the youth praise team, makes copies of the song sheets and provides wonderful music for the service. Thank you both, we couldn’t do it without you!
