The Social Ministry Committee at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Webster, NY has received funding from the Rochester, NY Thrivent chapter for a second Care Abounds in Communities® project. This project will allow us to create and ship 30 or more quilts to be donated to the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF). The QOV program was started by Catherine Roberts when her son left for Iraq. She saw a need, which continues to grow, to honor our combat wounded. These quilts are distributed to combat wounded by chaplains in military hospitals.
Note the number in the title 44/64 means that we have 45 quilts completed. There are 64 quilt tops finished though we may not be able to complete all the quilts this year. (Note: Thanks to the Rochester Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, additional funds were available for more batting and backing material to finish additional quilts.)
This is our second year for this project.
