A PREVIEW OF THINGS TO COME We are about to experience a major change here at Gloria Dei. By now you have received Pastor Tom's letter, telling us all about his plans to retire Sept. 30th of this year. While we will be sorry to see him go, we should be happy for him in his plans for retirement. Many of us have mixed emotions.
This starts a whole series of events. I hope I can explain some of it adequately. The last time we were looking for a new pastor, I was asked to join the call committee. It was quite an experience, very interesting and rewarding.
I spoke with the Bishop's assistant while attending the Synod Assembly, and she gave me a very brief explanation of what to expect. First Pastor Tom needed to notify all of us, along with the Bishop and our Dean. As you know he has done this. Then someone from the Bishop's office will come to speak with the council or call committee about the necessary paperwork that needs to be completed to advise the synod of our wants and needs concerning a new pastor.
The synod will send us their choice of an Interim Pastor to work with us until we find a permanent Pastor. The Bishop's office will become very involved with us during this important decision in the life of our church, and we need to let them guide us. The Interim Pastor has no say in our decisions about the new pastor.
Pastor Tom is currently President of the Council and I am Vice President so I have been asked to form a "Call Committee" to pursue this important task. We need a total of 8 people, 6 call members and 2 alternates, in case someone cannot travel, or meet regularly to fulfill the duties. This will be a huge commitment of your time so please consider your availabilty. Contact me at anytime, preferably soon, and help me form this group.
Much more will be happening as time goes on, and I will keep you as informed as I possibly can.
God be with us all.
