Progress
I was asked to update the members with the progress our church is making toward the installation of new carpet and pews. One of the processes during this effort that became one of the hardest to accomplish was what to do with the old pews. Being naïve myself I thought this would be the easiest part of getting new pews and carpet, however once we began looking into sale or donation of the pews to a church or Christian organization it became obvious finding someone was not going to be an easy task, but the Lord does provide. Through a simple conversation David Tafelmeyer had with a gentleman, we were put in contact with Abilene Second Baptist Church — they do mission work in the South America area. They were very excited to take our pews and put them to use in their mission work.
With that said we asked members to assist in the removal of the pews on the 4th of January. I expected about 20 to assist — we had 40 members and friends of members volunteer their time. This was truly a great experience, and once again I was amazed by the members of our church, they really came through to get the job done. Again, the Lord does provide.
The pews were loaded on about five trailers and away they went, but their new journey would not be a small one, for they are bound for Brazil. Think about that for a second, our Lutheran pews, that for nearly 50 years served Our Savior, soon will be installed in a church in Brazil.
I am truly glad we could make this happen, but to update members who were not present when we removed the pews, not all of the pews will be usable. Some of the pews were non-repairable.
The new carpet was installed the following week. Due to a delay in the delivery of the new pews we have used chairs in the sanctuary for our worship services.
We received a delivery date of January 27th for the new pews, which indicates that our first church service with the new pews will be February 1st.
This is a truly blessed event for our congregation; it has been amazing to watch God grant us so many blessings during these tasks carried out by our church.
