A History of Immanuel Lutheran Church Sterling, Nebraska
During 1872-74, Rev. John began mission work in this area. On Aug 2, 1874, Rev Martens was installed as the first resident pastor. On Sept. 4, 1874 Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Chaurch was established; August Rathe (chairman), John Eilers, Claus Fass, F. Kaiser, and Diedrich Janssen signed the constitution.

Immanuel's peak years for official acts were 1889-1935. During the ten-year period of 1889-98, there were 166 baptisms. There were 23 baptisms in 1891 and in 1893; six marriages in 1889 and in 1917; eight funerals in 1899 and in 1924; and 19 confirmations in 1935.

Today, by God's grace, Immanuel Lutheran Church continues in mission and ministry. Here "the Gospel is preached in its purity and the holy sacraments are administered according to the Gospel" (Augsburg Confession VII). Here, gathered around Word and Sacrament, belivers in Christ are built up in faith and love. Here we are: Immanuel, "God with us." yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
