St. John's & Trinity Lutheran Parish - Montevideo MN

St. John's was established in 1885 after about 12 years of labor by a missionary pastor, Rev. Henry Vetter, assistant to the Waconia congregation. He worked in 17 counties and served mission stops in 42 locations. He became the first full-time pastor of St. John's. The original chapel, still contained in the right half of the building pictured to the right, was built at a cost of about $400. Over the years it was improved and a small school was built to the north (now gone). In the early 1950's a basement was built beneath. In the 1970's the narthex and choir loft were added. In 1980 a new parsonage was built and in 2006 the left side addition was completed. An elevator now allows full handicap access to the chapel, basement, fellowship hall, and an appropriate restroom facility. Through all these physical changes God has proven faithful and the worship and fellowship of our congregation enhanced. It remains the goal and desire of St. John's to remain always faithful to our Lord and His saving Word as preserved accurately in the Holy Bible. Besides worship and Sunday school we also have an active ladies group (LWML), a regular Vacation Bible School each June and a variety of discipleship and fellowship activities.

2011 VBS was held June 5-10 with 35 in attendance. Theme - Gadget's Garage! 2010 VBS had about 25 in attendance. Theme: "Big Jungle Adventure."

St. John's Sunday worship services are broadcast weekly on Montevideo's local cable channel 8, Monday and Wednesday at 7 pm.
