A Little Information About Our Church |
Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church is located in Karthaus, PA. Our town is 20 miles northeast of Clearfield, PA, and 45 miles northwest of State College, PA.We gather weekly for worship so that our hearts and minds would be strengthened in love toward God as well as in love toward the world. Worship is central to our faith and it serves several functions. First and foremost, worship is the time when we give back to God what God desires from us. Second, worship is where we go and are guaranteed to not only find God, but be nurtured by Him. Third, it is the place where we can go and talk about the amazing ways that we have experienced God throughout the week in our lives and the people we met. However, we are a community who are continually learning how to be called into the world. As a community, we know that we are not called to be the church only within the walls of our sanctuary and fellowship hall. We are called out into the world not to take God with us, but to go into the world and find a God who is already out there! We are called to seek this God in our whole lives, and to point out this God to all those who will listen. Perhaps you are also sensing that you are called in a similar manner. If you are, come and join us! |

God's Challenge For Us |

|
To the left, you see a picture of our church sign for Pentecost 2008. Our service times are still correct as listed in the picture. But, the main reason for the photo is not to illustrate our times as much as speak about who we are trying to become. If God really is out in the world and we believe it, then we are called by God to go into a world in which He is already present. Isn't that comforting? You're never alone, no matter where you go. In fact, in some respects it can often be like playing a big game of Hide-and-Seek with God! God is in the world, our job is to go out and find Him. He's not hiding, we just don't always choose to see Him when we could. We don't always lok for Him in all the places that God is present. But once we see God, we are supposed to declare to the world a God that is already present in the lives of the people! Isn't that what Pentecost is all about in Acts 2:1-21? However, we are supposed to do more than just go out and find God in the world. God is interested in doing more than playing a divine version of Hide-and-Seek. God is also interested in playing a divine version of "Tag ... You're It!" When Jesus appears before His disciples in John 20:21, He breathes on them and says "receive the Holy Spirit." God is already within us! God has spiritually "tagged" us, and now it is our turn to act! We are called to a world and various congregations to proclaim God's ways, love, mercy, and grace to the world and each other. We don't always get it right. We don't always do what God has called us to do. But that doesn't change the fact that we are still called. God is out there, waiting for us to join Him. God is willing, and we are always in the process of learning to be more and more willing as well! So ... Go in peace, Serve the Lord! Go play Hide-and-Seek and find your God dwelling among the world. Go and play Tag and encourage others to be excited about as well. But go. And if you need a place to worship where these are the messages that you think the world needs to hear - then come!

Why Is Our Site Black With Light Colored Letters? |
Have you ever turned your monitor off? Of course you have! What color is it when it is off?You know that your monitor is black when no power is being used. That means that for your monitor to display color, it has to use energy. Websites with colored or white backgrounds use much more energy displaying their information than websites with black backgrounds. So, why does our website have a black background? Quite literally, to save you money! By looking at our website, your monitor is only expending energy in displaying the information that you need. Believe it or not, our black background actually helps save you some money! Pretty cool, eh? Oh, and for the ease of convience the pages on our website (in which we have control over the color scheme) will always use the following colors: Khaki - Page Title Light Blue - Section Title White - Normal Lettering
