Frostbite |
Frostbite: It sounds like a horrible name, doesn't it? Well, it certainly rolls off the tongue better than "Clearfield Conference Combined Confirmation Spring Retreat." It even rolls of the tongue better than "C4 Spring Retreat" - even if this is probably more informational. But seriously ... How cool is it to look at all your friends and smile as you proudly proclaim "I'm going for Frostbite this wekend!" So, what is Frostbite? It is the annual spring retreat for any church in the Clearfield Conference who wants to atend. We go to Camp Sequanota and spend a weekend away from school, video games, and parents! [Well, except those that want to chaperone, of course] And we have a blast! The weekend is all about Faith and Fun. We have a zipline that we are allowed to use. We worship God like you've never worshipped him before! We get to enjoy the beautiful rocks at Sequanota, and occasionally get to climb a few on our hike. We play kick the can, as well as a game called Sequanota Survivor. [You'll just have to come and see for yourself what that is!] We sleep in winterized cabins and even that is cool! Oh, and I can't forget our famed Marshmallow Fight of Doom! Want to be involved? Just ask!

Summer Camp |
Sequanota - It means land of many watersWhat is it? It's a church camp. It's a camp Pastor John goes to, and so do many of the youth of our church. They have cabin camping, adventure camping, guitar camp, horseback riding camp, fishing camp, confirmation camping, and ... so much more. Ask Pastor John for a pamphlet if you are interested. Or better yet, call the camp ofice at 814.629.6627. So, what can you do at Sequanota? Go to adventure camp and go rock climbing, white water rafting, and even caving (spelunking). Go to sports camp and learn how to play soccer, football, ultimate frisbee, and even rugby. Go to cabin camp and do crafts, archery, fishing, creek walking, and even mud whomping! Or pick out one of the many other camps. Camp also has some of the best food in Pennsylvania. Seriously. And their pool is one of the only creek fed sloped sided concrete swimming pools in Pennsylvania. It's deep enough to have a diving stand and an inflatable iceberg in the deep end for climbing and sliding off! Again, seriously! And every night ends with some kind of a game and a campfire. It is one ofthe best weeks all summer.

Confirmation |
Perhaps you grew up in the Lutheran Church. If so, then you already know what Confirmation is. But if you didn't - and that's okay - then you might need a bit of explanation here. Some churches baptize adults when the adult chooses. The Lutheran church baptizes both infants and adults. This means that some are baptized when they choose (the adults), while others are baptized when their parents choose (the infants). We believe that personal affirmation of faith is important in both cases, so those who are baptized as an infant are given an opportunity at Confirmation to proclaim that their faith is their own and by their own choosing. The sermon for this past Pentecost day (when we confirm those who have fulfilled the confirmation requirements) was "Tag, You're It!" It was about how God's Holy Spirit is already within us (and the world) and that we are called to go out into the world and find a God who is already out there waiting for us. When we see God we are to declare Him present and tell others, thus tagging them and reminding them of how God is working in their lives. In the Lutheran Church, we do believe in laying in of hands for healing, for ordination, as well as during confirmation or other events where God's Spirit is asked to come and dwell within people. After Confirmation, we have fun welcoming our newest members with all kinds of food: pumpkin bread, red angel food cakes, red pretzel candies, peanut butter meltaways, red watermelon, and any other kind of food that goes well for the day! But, while Confirmation is an important day, perhaps most important is the time leading up to a person's confirmation. There isa good bit of learning, playing, and lots of discussion leading up to that moment in time. If our faith canot bemade real in a way that makes us excited about it, then why ave it, right? That is the point of Confirmation. Making our faith personal - and getting excited about it! | | |
