Having recently come into contact with second cousins sharing the same set of Lohrmann great grandparents as my siblings and I have, a wonderful set of old family photographs has been added to my own small collection. Thanks to the previous efforts of several of my siblings and cousins, I know the names of our Lohrmann ancestors Joichim and Sophia, who migrated to the US from Germany with their son Henry and his wife Christiana and children and landed in New York on May 1, 1858, one hundred and fifty years ago. The family's migration is noted in the book "Germans to America" Volume 12, Nov 1857-1859 by Ira A. Glazier & P. William Filby, page 122. Since Henry and Christiana had six children at that time the family group was ten in number. The eldest of the children was Carl Lohrmann, my great-grandfather, who was eleven years of age at the time. By setting up this web site I hope to connect with other descendants of Joichim and Sophia, discover more photographs, and share family photos and stories. Who were Joichim's and Sophia's parents and what can we learn about them? Did Joichim and Sophia have any other children or relatives remaining in Germany? Did they stay in touch with them after arriving in the United States and leave letters that yet remain with their descendants? How many descendants did they have and how many are living today? Can we be in touch and learn more about our family history? | | | Welcome! You may browse public areas of our site. |
