St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richmond Hill

Rev. David J. Gerber was born on October 5, 1954 in Pennsylvania. After graduating from Kutztown University in 1976, he attended the Lutheran Seminary at Philadelphia where he received his degree in 1980. On June 1, 1980 he was ordained a Lutheran Pastor.
At that time, he was called to St. Paul’s for work in our Hispanic Ministry. He was installed as Assistant Pastor in September 1980. After serving in this position for 3 years, he was installed as our Pastor in October 1983.
In addition to his faithful work at St. Paul’s, Pastor Gerber has served the community throughout his tenure with us. He has served on several committees of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He is currently a member of the committee on Ministry among Guyanese. Rev. Gerber served as Dean of the Southwest Queens District from 1987 - 1989. He has also assisted many Congregations in Queens during times of crisis when they were without their own Pastoral leadership.
For more than 15 years Pastor Gerber has worked in the Queens District Attorney’s Second Chance Program. This program counsels and assigns community service to first-time non-violent offenders.
Pastor Gerber is an accomplished musician. He plays the trombone at festive services. Pastor works with our adult choir and encourages our growing Sunday School to sing at services.
David’s wife Doris is beside him in his ministry. He is beloved by all who know him.
