Pastor Leon W. Schultz was born in Waseca, Minnesota, and raised in the neighboring, rural town of Janesville. He began his education at Trinity Lutheran Grade School and spent his high school years at Concordia High School in Seward, Nebraska. He enrolled at Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska and later transferred to the University of Nebraska where he graduated with a B.A. of Arts degree in August, 1973. Six years later, Pastor Schultz entered Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.He was awarded the Masters of Divinity degree in July, 1983. He received his first Call to The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Enfield, Connecticut. After being ordained into the Holy Ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church, Janesville, Minnesota, he moved to Connecticut and was installed as Pastor of The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.
Pastor Schultz served The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer until December of 1988 when he accepted a Call to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Providence, Rhode Island. He has served St. Paul’s Lutheran Church to the present time. While serving St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Pastor Schultz also has continued his higher education program and has earned a B.A. of Arts degree in Spanish in August, 1996, and a M.A. degree in Spanish in May, 2001.
Pastor Schultz married Joan Leih Herpolsheimer in September, 1972. Pastor met Joan while both were attending Concordia High School at Seward, Nebraska. Mrs. Schultz is a graduate of Bryan Memorial School of Nursing, Lincoln, Nebraska. She earned her Diploma in Nursing in August, 1972 and currently continues her career as a Registered Nurse at The St. Elizabeth Home, East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
The Lord has blessed the Schultz’s with three daughters—Samantha, age 25, and Danielle, age 23, and Alison, age 21. Samantha has recently earned her Master’s Degree in Speech Therapy. Danielle currently is attending graduate school at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Alison is presently completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, Rhode Island. All three bring special joy to the family in their own special ways.
