Traveling to Lancaster County

Please make your travel plans as quickly as possible; the holidays are a very busy time for the travel industry and, typically, prices will become more expensive as fewer tickets are available. Regardless of your mode of transportation, your final destination is Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please contact the Lancaster County CIH Coordinator if you have questions about making travel arrangements.

For those traveling by plane -

Students in the past who have chosen to fly to Pennsylvania have found the following be a cost effective way to get to Lancaster:

Choose your final airport destination as Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).
Public transportation to Lancaster is available from Philadelphia Airport, but not from the Harrisburg Aiport.

After arriving at the Philadelphia Airport, look for signs for SEPTA Trains to Center City. There are multiple SEPTA stations located throughout the airport complex, typically located near a Baggage Claim area. The link at the end of this page will take you to maps of the airport showing the location of SEPTA train stations. You will need a SEPTA ticket for the Center City bound train to the 30th Street Station. The cost from the airport to 30th Street Station is $7.00 one way.

After arriving at 30th Street Station, follow signs for Amtrak (located in the lower level). You will need a ticket for Lancaster (LNC). The cost from 30th Street Station to Lancaster is less than $20.00 one way.

Both SEPTA and Amtrak are trains.
SEPTA travels between the airport and the Amtrack station.
Amtrak will bring you to Lancaster where
your host family will meet you.
Please schedule your arrival times between
8:00 am and 8:00 pm, Eastern Standard Time.)

Please note that your host family will not meet you or return you to either the Philadelphia or Harrisburg Airports.
It is your responsibility to arrive and depart from Lancaster.
