Our History

Gethsemane began its life in a store front room at 5129 West Cermak Road. On March 24, 1912, twelve people met there for worship and Gethsemane was born. Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church was officially organized as a congregation on June 30, 1912.

We are a congregation that has never reserved itself for one ethnic group of people, but have seen ourselves as a Lutheran congregation that serves and invites all people in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. That is our story and the vision that beckons us forward.
