Circuit #19 Elders and Spiritual Care Team Training

Purpose: For the churches of Circuit #19 to join together in encouraging and equipping Elders and those charged with the spiritual care of their congregation’s pastors and staff and their families, as well as spiritual care of congregational members.

Date(s): August 22 or 29, 2009

Time: 10:00AM to 3:00 PM

Place: Our Savior’s Community Lutheran Church, Palm Springs

Plenary Speaker: Rev. Ron Rehrer, M.A., M.F.C.C. Counselor for Professional Church Workers and Regional Mission Facilitator. Topic: the Care and Feeding of your pastor and staff.

Suggested Breakout Sectional Topics to be led by a pastor, an experience elder, or a pastor/elder team.

3. Qualifications for Elders
4. How to do Hospital Visits
5. Cell Groups for Discipleship
6. Enhancing Prayer Ministry
7. Women’s Care Issues
8. Elders in Study with their Pastor
9. The Elder and the Communion Service
10. Moving to the Next Level: Deacons

Possible working lunch topics:
1. Have Elders sit by congregation and discuss how their church is doing in relation to the topics of the plenary speaker.
2. Have elders sit at mixed congregation tables and discuss: What is the toughest part of being an elder for you. What are the greatest joys of being an elder for you?

Suggested Cost $15.00 per person buys lunch and at least one suggested book to take home and read. Funds may be needed from the Circuit Forum and may also be s9licited from Thrivent and LCEF.
