Many have asked where does the benevolence money we send go? Benevolence is the money we send to the synod and ELCA on a national level. As you can see:46% goes to the national church for developing new programs, supporting missionaries, providing mission help around the world and starting new congregations in the U.S.
24% goes to supporting the staff of the synod.
18% supports the institutions of the synod: Newberry College, Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Lutheran Family Services, Lutheridge-Lutherock, SC Lutheran Retreat Centers, Lutheran Homes.
7% goes to supporting the programs of the synod which includes youth ministry, Young Adult ministry, pastoral support for rostered leaders, outreach, stewardship, and candidacy.
5% supports college campus ministry around the state.
