HISTORY THE LOWER WILD RICE AND RED RIVER CHURCH > The Lower Wild Rice and Red River Church was organized November 25, 1872 in a rural home near the Wild Rice River north of Hickson, ND with eight families. > The members agreed at the annual meeting on December 2, 1878 that they would contribute a share of the next year's crop for a church building fund. > The church was built in 1880 and dedicated on October 18, 1891. > The Ladies Aid Society was organized on July 30, 1889. > The church building was struck by lightning early morning on July 17, 1940 and burned to the ground after sixty years of service.NORTH PLEASANT CHURCH > Pleasant Evangelical Lutheran Congregation was organized November 27, 1872 in a home three miles southwest of Christine, ND with ten families. > Lutheran ministers, who did missionary work in this region of the Red River Valley, served the congregation and held worship services in homes. > For practical reasons, the Pleasant Evangelical Lutheran Congregation was divided in 1880 - the southern division adopting the name "South Pleasant Lutheran Church" and the northern division taking the name "North Pleasant Lutheran Church." > At a special congregational meeting held May 28, 1882, the North Pleasant church members agreed to contribute to a church building fund either with a promise of money or with specified acres of their wheat crop. > The North Pleasant Church was built in 1890 and dedicated June 3, 1892. > The Ladies Aid Society was organized July 16, 1889 at the parsonage. > The North Pleasant and Lower Wild Rice and Red River congregations merged October 7, 1940. > In 1940 the North Pleasant church was moved to Hickson. HICKSON LUTHERAN CHURCH > Once the North Pleasant church building was moved to Hickson in 1940, the congregation was renamed "Hickson Lutheran Church." > The first annual meeting of Hickson Lutheran Church was held January 14, 1941 and the church was dedicated May 30, 1942. > In 1952 Christine Lutheran Church joined South Pleasant and Hickson congregations to form the Christine Parish. |
