Holy Trinity Lutheran Church was established in 1922 by Reverend Fortunato Scarpitti, who served as pastor for 42 years. Nestled in the heart of Little Italy, one of the poorest neighborhoods in Erie, the church has served people of many cultures with its weekly services and outreach programs. On Tuesdays, Holy Trinity has a Soup and Pasta Kitchen that offers free dinner, as well as a Food Pantry and Clothes Closet. Recreational activities for youth are provided on Wednesdays, and free lunch is provided on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Approximately half of the membership of Holy Trinity is made up of people who have immigrated from the Sudan. Members also include those of Latino, African-American and Asian Pacific heritages. Holy Trinity is truly a multi-cultural congregation.
The pastor is Reverend Karen Lundwall, who also serves as pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. The two congregations have a joint council and occasionally have services together. Both are members of the Erie Lutheran Parish, a cooperative ministry of the eight Lutheran churches in the city of Erie.
Sunday services are held at 11:00 am, with Sunday School at 9:30 am.
