What's Happening in Louisiana
Things are gearing up now that it is Carnival season. The parades will be starting February. There are usually two or so a week, with the smaller krewes having theirs first then working up to the larger and grander krewes and their parades. All will culminate on Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) and the revelry will end with Ash Wednesday ringing in the season of Lent. With this area having been originally settled by Spanish and French and Catholocism being the predominant religion for those cultures, the religious aspect of this time of year is near and dear to locals. I believe the kids actually have off school the week of Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday. And, yes, Fat Tuesday is an official holiday down here, and there is no mail delivery, as we found out last year when we were expecting a package containing cheese curds ...

Other than that, it's a bit cold. The arctic air tends to come down the middle of the US and reach us down here quite regularly. So we do get some winter. The north shore of Lake Ponchartrain will sometimes get snow. We are looking forward to the end of winter and to see some warmer temps!
