2012 National Lutheran Youth Gathering |

This event is held every three years as a way to bring together Lutheran young people from all over the states. During this 5-day event students hear great speakers and Christian bands, work on service projects and deepen their faith with workshops, seminars & Bible studies. Plus there’s plenty of fun to be had as well in the giant interaction center with games & activities as well as touring the city. The next Gathering will be held July 18-22, 2012 in New Orleans, LA. The event is for students that have completed 9th grade through those who have graduated in the 2012 school year. It is an event that cannot be duplicated anywhere else. Registration begins on October 9th and it can fill up before the end of October so if you’re interested in attending please see Bob Hollinger.

ZYM Begins |
September 11th from 6:30-8:30 PM and is for students in grades 6 – 12. ZYM usually occurs here at the church on the 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month. ZYM is always open to friends, so please invite them along with you. This year’s theme is The 11th Commandment, which deals with Jesus’ last conversation with his disciples when He announced an essentially new commandment - for us to Love one another. As we read scripture we find that love one another can be broken down into about three dozen “one another’s” such as Accept, Encourage, Comfort, Serve and more. We’ll take a look this year at how we can love one another and therefore love God with these ways of living.

Head to Heart begins |
Zion’s confirmation ministry called Head to Heart (H2H) is a partnership with the home on helping to raise Christ-centered, faith-filled individuals in the world. A three-year ministry, its goal is to help 7th – 9th grade students take ownership for their faith and stand ready to say – I believe in Jesus as Lord & Savior. Students are then confirmed into voting membership of Zion in their 9th grade year. This year’s H2H begins on September 11th at 9:15 AM in the scout room, lower level beneath the social hall. Head to Heart is held each Sunday through May 13th with a few exceptions such as Christmas & Easter Sundays. This year’s themes include The Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Communion & Martin Luther. All 7th graders are invited to join H2H, if your family did not receive a letter about this please contact Bob Hollinger. Students do not have to be members of Zion to join Head to Heart, if you have a grandchild, niece or nephew that doesn’t go to church elsewhere they can also be part of this journey.

See you at the Pole |
See You at the Pole isn't about groups, grades, clothes, or churches. It's about praying. It's about all of us coming together and laying aside all the labels for one day, simply to call out to God. This year’s theme is CONVERGE taken from Matthew 18:20. This simple verse is a comforting and encouraging promise from Jesus Himself that helps us to know He is always with us. When we gather and agree together, placing Him first, He is there. And when God and His people converge for prayer, lives change! So are you in, ready to join us in the circle? Join your generation of faith on Wednesday, September 28, at 7 a.m., GATHER at your school flagpole, UNITE in the name of the One Who died to save you, and PRAY for your school, friends, and families. COME TOGETHER, just as Jesus prayed we would. |

Operation Christmas Child |

Each year ZYM sponsors this amazing service project where you get to touch the life of a child with something as simple as a shoebox. We’ll wrap a limited number of boxes for the congregation to take home and fill with toys, hygiene items, craft items etc. Unwrapped boxes will also be available and you may return them wrapped or unwrapped. Each student is also challenged to fill a box on their own using their own money or allowance. The collection will run from October 2nd – November 13th. We’ll start wrapping boxes in September.
Food Stand |
ZYM has the opportunity to run a food stand at an auction on Saturday, October 8th. The auction is being held for the parents of a congregational member. We’re looking for 8-12 students to help set up around 7 AM, serve food, then tear down around 3 PM, we also can use several adults that day. In addition we are looking for congregational members willing to provide baked goods, chili, and soup. If you’re interested in helping in anyway please sign up on the ZYM board or contact Bob Hollinger. Funds raised will go to help support attendance at the National Gathering, retreats, service projects and more.
Rock Climbing |
Get ready for a fun day of climbing at Cliques Rock in Columbia on Monday, October 10th. It’s Columbus Day, so you’ll have off from school. We’re contracting with Camp Kirchenwald staff to set up and run the ropes at Chiques Rock just like they do for their summer program. It’ll be totally safe, professional and totally awesome. Cost is $15 for several hours of climbing. Our expected hours are 9 AM – until 2 PM at Chiques. Please bring a bagged lunch and water with you. We’ll be inviting other churches that day, so you get the chance to make some new friends. You can also invite your friends from school to go with us. Sign up on the ZYM board, deadline September 25th. Drivers & chaperones (you don’t have to climb) are needed.

A Night in New Orleans |
Mark your calendars for Saturday evening, October 22, when ZYM will be hosting a special New Orleans themed dinner event in the social hall. Travel south to this fascinating city without ever leaving Landisville. You’ll enjoy the tastes, sights, and sounds of the Bayou State and the fellowship of your Zion friends. (But pass the word ~ all are welcome. Invite your neighbors, friends and family too!) This special night will be a fundraising event to support ZYM’s July 2012 trip to the ELCA Lutheran National Youth Gathering and mission work in New Orleans. Watch for details and ticket information later in September.

After lunch H2H will tour the Gettysburg battlefields and then return home around 8 PM. This overnighter is an important piece of our learning for the year and all H2H students are expected to take part in it. Parents your help in needed and appreciated by serving as male & female overnight chaperones and / or drivers on Saturday. Please see Bob if you’re able to help.
