From the desk of your Pastor Grace, Peace and Mercy are yours in the name of Jesus Christ our Risen Lord. Amen. “The times, they are a’changin’.” That is one of the favorite sayings of one of my friends in Columbia. And, indeed, it is true; they indeed are changing. These changes are on a variety of levels. These changes are personal. Rebbecca and I, in the coming weeks, will be welcoming a little one into our family. We will be welcoming a little one into our family, and life will change forever. We take on the call to be stewards of others. These changes are in the land. Crops and gardens are planted. Life is renewed. We plant in hopes of a great harvest, in hopes of feeding loved ones and strangers. We take on the call to be stewards of creation. These changes are all around the Church. Normally in the spring we welcome into full adult membership those who are affirming the promises made at baptism… and that is true for our StsX3 Confirmation class as well. We welcome into full, adult membership three wonderful young ladies. When we welcome them, we also re-affirm the promises which were made at our baptism, which many of us affirmed at our own Confirmation. We take on the call, along with those being confirmed, to be stewards of the spiritual life God has given us. These changes are also in the society. We are preparing to welcome a new group of persons into adulthood through the ‘secular’ rite of Graduation. These students have worked hard for the vast majority of their lives. They have worked to learn about all those things that they will need to function as an intelligent and well-rounded adult in today’s society. Along with them, we are reminded that we too are stewards of our mental lives. We join in challenges to learn. In this time of transition, I pray the Lord direct your path, and keep you held in the arms of peace. ~ Pastor John

St. Mark's youth are a part of The Three Saints Youth Group (STSX3). Composed mainly of junior and senior high students of St. Mark's- rural Verdon, St. Peter's -rural Falls City, and St. Paul's - Falls City. The big event coming up this summer is the National Youth Gathering. Over 35,000 Lutheran youth and their sponsors will converge in New Orleans for "Citizens With the Saints", July 17-22. The STSX3 members, and their families, have been working hard the past 2 1/2 years to raise the funds needed to attend this life changing event. With strong church and community support they are within their financial goal. |
