Director of Music

Mr. Alan J. Hack
St. Matthew is blessed to have Mr. Alan Hack as our newest Director of Music. Alan came to us in March 2005 from the Benton United Methodist Church where he served as Pianist/Organist and Assistant Choir Director for three years. Alan is a graduate of Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a Minor in Music Performance and Certification in Secondary Education in the state of Pennsylvania. Beginning piano lessons at the age of nine, Alan took time off and self-trained for five years at the age of thirteen. Alan studied under the direction of Dr. Holly Roadfeldt-O'Riordan, Piano, Dr. Susan Hegberg and Mrs. Barbara Smillie, Organ. He is currently an 8th grade mathematics teacher at Northwestern Lehigh Middle School, New Tripoli, PA. We wish him the best as he continues to serve our church in the future!

St. Matthew is blessed with a full and rich ministry of music including a Moller Pipe Organ, Steinway Baby Grand Piano, Senior Choir, and Handbell Ringers.

Senior Choir
The Saint Matthew Senior Choir welcomes all adults. The choir rehearses on Sundays from 2:00-3:00 pm and leads worship at the 10:30 hour every Sunday morning from September through early June. We enjoy learning sacred choral music spanning a wide variety of composers and styles, while treasuring our roots in the finest Lutheran choral music for worship. Members share their talents as singers and servers offered to the Glory of God as we worship God. All voices are welcome, trained and untrained, high, low, confident or not! Join us for the joy of singing and for fellowship. Have questions? Contact:

Needed: a few good male voices!

Bell and Chime Choir
St. Matthew now supports a more active program for handbell and chime ringing to make joyful music in the service to the Lord on some Sunday mornings and during special seasonal services. Three octaves of Schulmerich handbells are rung throughout much of the year.

The Handbell Choir rehearses on Sundays from 1:00-2:00 pm. Ranging from 1-2 performances per month, the choir usually rehearses from 9:30-10:15 on those Sundays.

Some of our ringers did not read a note of music before joining a hand bell group and some ringers have been active musicians for many years. But all share the same fun and challenge of playing an instrument with a group of dedicated ringers.

May God be praised through joyful music in our worship!

If you would like to join the handbell choir, we welcome new members at any time. Please contact Alan Hack for more information!
