2008 Groundbreaking |

2007 #1 - The Sutton Home |

2007 #2 - The Jimmie Home |
 |
Both of these houses are
in the Quail Ridge subdivision just east of Hwy 287, about 1/2 mile north of
Pike road in Longmont.
These 2 homes were a
part of the 5 homes built by St
Vrain Valley Habitat for Humanity during 2007. One other was funded by
Rocky Mountain Christian Church,
another by
Amgen Foundation and
another by the large number of individual donors in the community.
The
Thrivent Builds program is structured to
stimulate faith in action volunteerism and giving within the Thrivent Lutheran
community. At least 50% of the volunteer labor on these 2 homes is to be
Lutheran. The Lutheran community is to give 10% of the material cost - either
through cash gifts or gifts-in-kind of professional labor or new material.
You are all invited to
join in this good work. Except for holidays, we work every Wed, Fri & Sat from 8:00
to 4:00. Individuals or groups may volunteer. So that we can plan appropriate
work for the number of volunteers on each work day, please call the Longmont
Habitat office at 303-682-2485 to indicate the work days you intend to support.
Also, call the office if you have professional labor or new material you can
donate or discount. Also call if your church can supply a job site meal for one
of these workdays.
See the
Saint Vrain Valley
Habitat web page for more information.
Thrivent Builds with
Habitat for Humanity
Colorado 2008 Facts
Thrivent
Builds with Habitat for Humanity is
a four-year, $125 million alliance between Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and
Habitat for Humanity International. “Thrivent
Builds” homes mirror other Habitat homes, but have a greater focus on
volunteers from Thrivent chapters and Lutheran congregations. Those groups and
other community volunteers—including Habitat partner families—come together to
build simple, decent, affordable homes. But it’s not a giveaway program. Homes
are sold to partner families at no profit. In addition to monthly mortgage
payments, each homebuyer family invests hundreds of hours of labor into
building their home and other Habitat houses.
In its
first two years, the program funded construction for more than 650 homes in 46
states and the District of Columbia.
Hundreds of thousands of volunteers helped build the homes.
In Longmont:
- One is being built with St. Vrain Valley Habitat for Humanity. Habitat affiliates
are independent, locally run, nonprofit organizations that coordinate all
aspects of Habitat home-building within specific geographical areas.
- Over 350 volunteers are expected to help from the community and from Twin
Peaks Thrivent chapter—geographically-based volunteer groups of Thrivent
Financial members. Lutherans from area churches will provide at least 50%
of the volunteers!
- It will cost $165,000 to build the home:
- Thrivent Financial is funding $107,250 or 65 percent,
- St. Vrain
Valley HFH is
contributing $41,250 or 25
percent,
- Twin Peaks Thrivent chapter/area
Lutheran Churches are raising $16,500
or 10 percent.
In Colorado:
- Ten homes are being built.
- 3,200 volunteers from Colorado and
from nine Thrivent chapters are expected to help
- Eight Habitat affiliates are
participating.
- It will cost approximately $1,553,757
to build the 10 homes in Colorado:
- Thrivent Financial is funding $1,009,945,
or 65 percent.
- Habitat affiliates are
contributing $388,442, or 25 percent.
- Thrivent chapters are raising $155,378,
or 10 percent.
Nationally:
- 324
homes are being built in 42
states at a cost of approximately $35.9
million:
- Thrivent
Financial is funding approximately $23.4
million, or 65 percent.
- Habitat
affiliates need to raise nearly $9
million, or 25 percent.
- Thrivent
chapters need to raise nearly $3.6
million, or 10 percent.
- It
will take roughly 650,000
volunteer hours from more than 100,000
volunteers.
- More
than 290 Thrivent Financial for
Lutherans chapters will be involved.
- Homes
will be built with 243 Habitat
for Humanity affiliates.
